On December 11 acting Minister of National Defence Laurynas Kasčiūnas met with Minister of Defence of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Yuriko Backes visiting her military personnel in Lithuania. Minister discussed regional security and assistance to Ukraine in Rukla.
Acting Minister of National Defence L. Kasčiūnas thanked Luxembourg for contributing to regional security.
“As Russia continues waging war against Ukraine, the treat to the Euro-Atlantic security remains, and it is necessary to strengthen NATO capabilities in the eastern flank. We highly appreciate Luxembourg’s financial assistance to the Lithuanian Armed Forces and deployment of additional capabilities to the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group. Allied resolve, vigilance and unwavering solidarity in strengthening security in our region, and the whole Alliance, are critical,” said L. Kasčiūnas.
Luxembourg has been contributing troops to the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group in a logistical support role since 2017. Luxembourg’s military personnel is also sent to train in multinational NATO exercises in Lithuania.
