On September 19-25 fighter aircraft conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states were scrambled 3 times to intercept military aircraft of the Russian Federation in the international airspace over the Baltic Sea flying in violation of international aviation flight rules.
On September 20 NATO fighter aircraft intercepted two MIG-31s and two SU-27s flying into the international airspace from Kaliningrad and then back. None of the aircraft had the onboard transponders on, no flight plans, no radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre.
On September 21 NATO aircraft patrolled the airspace border between the Baltic states and Russia and Belarus.
On September 21 NATO fighter aircraft intercepted one IL-76 flying from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad via international airspace. Its onboard transponder of was off, the crew had no pre-filed flight plan and was not maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre.
