Today Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas met with Minister of Defence of the Czech Republic Jana Černochova at Rukla to discuss bilateral security and defence cooperation. The officials addressed the Czech troops and military capabilities deployed in Lithuania, assistance to Ukraine and agenda of the oncoming NATO Summit in Vilnius.
“We are grateful to the Czech Republic for deploying in Lithuania the short-range air defence and electronic warfare capabilities. It is a significant contribution to the security of Lithuania and the entire Baltic region. We appreciate the deployment of the Czech troops to the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group Lithuania and the NATO Air Policing Mission. The Czech decision to continue the reinforced NATO air policing in the Baltic states is very important to us,” said A. Anušauskas.
The Czech Air Force deployed 5 JAS 39 Gripen jets to the enhanced NATO Baltic Air Policing Mission flown from Šiauliai. The strength of the Czech detachment was approx. 130 troops.
Minister also invited the Czechs to join the Lithuanian-coordinated Cyber Rapid Response Teams (CRRTs). Strengthening of cybersecurity will be high on the agenda of the upcoming NATO Summit in Vilnius.
