The Lithuanian Armed Forces signed a contract renewal with Italy’s Leonardo S.p.A. – Aircraft Division on logistical maintenance of Lithuania’s three C-27J Spartan aircraft in Vilnius today at the Embassy of Italy in Vilnius. The Italian company commits to ensures repair and exchange of C-27J Spartan spare parts, calibration of ground-based equipment, system renewal and personnel training.
The contract value stands at EUR 20 million across three aircraft for three years and can be extended to the duration of 9 years. Extra spares, personnel training and technical maintenance services will be available during the contract term for EUR 2.2 million. It has also been agreed to purchase spare parts worthy of EUR 2.8 million to minimize aircraft downtime in case of technical failure and replenish the stocks.
The contract is expected to ensure effective operation of the medium-size C-27J Spartan cargo aircraft used by the Lithuanian Armed Forces and preparedness to complete missions inside the country and on NATO operations. The contract will facilitate long-term operation readiness and reliability, as well as effective planning of the logistical chain, cut down downtime and ensure planning for the long-term. The Lithuanian Armed Forces uses the -27J Spartan to airlift military personnel and cargo, air assault tasks and medical evacuation, as well as VIP transportation.
