On May 3 through 6 arms control inspectors of the Lithuanian Armed Forces will carry out an inspection of military activities in a designated area in Finland, specifically, the southern part of the country. According to the regulations of the Vienna Document 2011 and data collected on the verification visit, Lithuania will report to other members of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe on the compliance with the Document regulations witnessed during the inspection in Finland.
During the visit carried out under the Vienna Document 2011 regulations, the arms control inspectors will be able to receive information about the number of personnel deployed in the units in the designated inspection area, their major weaponry and vehicle types and numbers, to familiarize with the activities carried out at training areas ad ranges, view pieces of major equipment and weaponry systems.
The OSCE Vienna Document 2011 commits its signatory countries to conduct information exchange on their manpower, planned capability development and defence budgets on an annual basis, and to notify other Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) countries in advance of scheduled military activities of significant scope. The states also commit to accept a designated number of inspections and evaluation visits by other member states’ military inspectors in military units in their territories.
Lithuania conducted a verification visit on the basis of the Vienna Document 2011 regulations at the invitation of Belarus on February 18–20 of this year at the joint Russian-Belarusian operational training Allied Resolve 2022 in the territory of Belarus.
