Minister of National Defence Robertas Kaunas and Ambassador of South Korea in Lithuania Joyoung Jeon discussed potential cooperation in the areas of counter-drone systems and the small air defence capabilities.
“Lithuania takes into account not just quality and price but also terms of delivery, when buying air defence and counter-drone systems, so we are looking at different options. Looking ahead, we are weighing options of cooperation with the defence industry of South Korea in purchasing air defence systems: the Koreans area among the most trusted manufacturers of 30–40 mm air defence artillery, they could also deliver promptly,” said R. Kaunas.
Another topic discussed was industrial cooperation and potential defence production in Lithuania.
Minister noted that Lithuania and South Korea had a lot in common: hostile regimes in the neighborhood and the resulting obligatory high vigilance. According to Minister, that was a natural foundation for a closer cooperation.
Collaboration between Lithuania and South Korea has gained pace over the recent years, while cyber defence remains the natural pillar of the partnership between the two countries.
