On June 22 Federal Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius is beginning a formal visit to Lithuania. He will meet with German military personnel and Minister of National Defence Robertas Kaunas and observe Exercise Freedom Shield 26-I in Pabradė.
The 45th German Armoured Brigade (Panzerbrigade 45) Litauen is concluding its firs training exercise Freedom Shield 26-I at the General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area. The event has involved 2900 military personnel and approx. 800 military vehicles from eight NATO Allies training in Pabradė in realistic conditions and all components typical to modern warfare: drones, mine throwers, artillery, attack helicopters, battle tanks, and armoured infantry fighting vehicles.
The drills marks a milestone in the Brigade readiness: the German Brigade Litauen will be showcasing its readiness for Battle twice a year in Lithuania thus supporting deterrence and security in the Eastern Flank.
The meeting with Minister R. Kaunas will address the work needed to be done to station the Brigade fully, as well as other important bilateral topics.
