On July 3–4 the Ministry of National Defence will be illuminated in the colors of the United States flag as the country marks the 250th anniversary of independence. Lithuania joins the worldwide Global Illumination initiative of the U.S. Department of State that celebrates the historical 250th U.S. Independence Day and the ideals of freedom, democracy and self-governance – the values that have inspired nations and brought together the like-minded allies for over two decades.
“The United States is a strategic Lithuania’s Ally whose leadership and commitment to the transatlantic security is pivotal to the security of our region. The partnership between Lithuania and the U.S. rests on shared democratic values, trust and mutual effort to strengthen collective defence. We join this symbolic initiative to honor the anniversary of the U.S. statehood and highlight transatlantic unity as one of the key pillars of deterrence,” says Minister of National Defence Robertas Kaunas.
Lithuania and the U.S. are consistently strengthening the strategic defence cooperation through investment in Host Nation infrastructure and steps to ensure the best possible living and training conditions for U.S. troops in Lithuania.
Lithuania also consistently delivers on our NATO commitment trough significant defence investment, stronger national capabilities and contributions to joint transatlantic security initiatives.
