On May 25 Vice Minister of National Defence Margiris Abukevičius with representatives of the Embassies of the United States of America, Georgia and Ukraine in Lithuania attended a representation of results of a pilot project, Cyber Threat Analysis Cell (CTAC), the first active pilllar of the currently developed Regional Cyber Defence Centre.
“First results of the Cyber Treat Analysis Cell lay great foundations for further cooperation that could begin at full speed in the autumn. It is also a good opportunity to practice lessons learned, to calculate the resources necessary for further work to ensure continuity of the activity,” said Vice Minister M. Abukevičius at the meeting.
According to Vice Minister, the immediate facility development steps will be the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of the Regional Cyber Defence Centre in Kaunas. The agreement has yet to be finalized with the parties concerned in the project and could be endorsed in late summer.
The new Regional Cyber Security Centre is developed by the National Cyber Security Centre under the Ministry of National Defence four cybersecurity experts of Lithuania, U.S., Georgia and Ukraine have been cooperating throughout May to identify the need and opportunities for cyber threat analysis and analysis exchange. Main insights were made available to the meeting participants on the particularity of incidents in critical infrastructure and measures the CTAC could take to prevent cyber attacks.
Representatives of the countries contributing to the pilot project underscored the advantages of such a platform. According to them, diverse information resources and points of expertise facilitate better analysis of potential vectors of an attack in a timely, speedy and efficient manner to share information with the respective capitals. The platform would enable direct sharing of vital information with critical infrastructure managers.
