On March 10 Vice Minister of National Defence Margiris Abukevičius welcomed the new Defence Attaché of Georgia to Lithuania Col Irakli Uchadze.
“Lithuania has also rendered every kind of support to Georgia’s aspirations to become a member of NATO and the European Union. We have seen the unceasing efforts of the country to put in place the necessary defence and policy reforms and to reorganise the armed forces in line with NATO standards over the years – we hope that Georgia continues on this track and we are prepared to give every support necessary,” Vice Minister M. Abukevičius said at the accreditation ceremony.
Lithuania and Georgia have an intense defence cooperation, the bilateral cooperation is particularly active in military training and joint exercise areas.
Lithuania also supports implementation of projects of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package: since 2015 Lithuania and other Nordic and Baltic countries have been helping with the creation of the NATO-Georgia joint Training and Assessment Centre and contributes an officer. Lithuania financially contributes to the NATO Trust Fund for defence capacity building initiatives. Lithuania and Georgia has intensified the cooperation in the area of cyber security recently: take part in joint cyber exercises, exchange experience on developing cyber tools, signed a Declaration of Intent laying the ground for Georgian contribution to the developed Regional Cyber Defence Centre in Kaunas under the National Cybersecurity Centre.
