On May 13–14 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis will take part in the European Union Defence Ministers meeting in Brussels.
Minister R. Karoblis and ten of his EU counterparts will sign an international agreement on establishing a simplified military mobility procedures programme in Brussels. Implementation of the agreement involves the signatory countries seeking ways to make the movement of military personnel and equipment in Europe faster.
An informal discussion will also take place on the measures to prevent influencing the results of the upcoming elections to the European Parliament and spread of disinformation – countries will share national experience and discuss potentially useful changes that could be made at EU level. The response to hybrid threats will also be the central theme of the working dinner of the EU Defence Ministers and NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller.
The Ministers will also take stock of the progress made over the year on the projects implemented in the Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) framework , including the project of developing cyber rapid response teams led by Lithuania. The goal of PESCO is to deepen the security and defence cooperation with the EU member states whose military capabilities correspond to higher criteria and who are bound together by more commitment.
While in Brussels, Minister of National Defence R. Karoblis will bestow the National Defence System Medal of Merit for Civilians on former Minister of Defence of Belgium Steven Vandeput for his merits to the development of defence cooperation of Lithuania and Belgium.
