On October 20 the Lithuanian National Security Conference co-organized by the Lithuanian Riflemen Union and Vytautas Magnus University took place at the Palace of Grand Dukes of Lithuania in Vilnius.
It marks a memorable date, October 20 is the 230th anniversary of the Constitution of the Lithuanian-Polish Commonwealth and of the Mutual Pledge of the Two Nations. The Conference commemorates an event that laid the foundations of the tradition of modern understanding of parliamentary system of government and political thought in Poland and Lithuania.
President of the Republic of Lithuania HE Gitanas Nausėda and President of the Republic of Poland HE Andrzej Duda were in attendance and spoke at the event.
The annual conference addresses regional security threats, emerging challenges prevailing at that moment and keeps the public informed on that. This year Lithuanian and foreign diplomats, members of the academia, experts and military officers from Poland, Germany, Finland, United States, Israel and Ukraine will share their insights on the security situation, defensibility of the region, and civil involvement in national defence.
“Speaking on national security topics, discuss and find answers is one of the main objectives of the Lithuanian Riflemen Union. Education of the public thus contributing to its resilience to potential threats and readiness to take part in national defence is an important mission. The power of every country is in its citizens, and public resilience to threats is a critical factor in collective security,” says Commander of the Lithuanian Riflemen Union Col Albertas Dapkus.
According to Col Albertas Dapkus, the international Conference is not just an excellent platform to address the security of the entire region but also a means to develop an even finer understanding and ability to identify the role of the society and the Lithuanian Riflemen Union in strengthening national security against the backdrop of the current challenges.
President of the Republic of Lithuania HE Gitanas Nausėda is the event patron.
The Ministry of National Defence, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Vilnius City Council are also co-organizers of the Lithuanian National Security Conference.
