June 1, Vice Minister of National Defence Margiris Abukevičius met with Ambassador of Italy to Lithuania HE Diego Ungaro to discuss cooperation in the area of cyber security and other topical issues.
“Italy actively participates in the Lithuanian-coordinated European Union Cyber Rapid Response Teams project on observer’s rights. We also have successful cooperation in other formats in the area of cyber security,” Vice Minister M. Abukevičius said after the meeting.
Considering the success of the cooperation to date, Ambassador D. Ungaro invited the Ministry of National Defence to organise a joint cybersecurity seminar and thus create an opportunity for Lithuanian and Italian experts and representatives of education institutions to exchange insights.
M. Abukevičius and D. Ungaro also discussed regional security, Vice Minister thanked Italy for the active contribution to the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltics, underscored the necessity to continue the intense work on the EU defence initiatives, and asked Italy’s support to the idea of launching a European military training mission in Ukraine that had been put forward by Lithuania.
