The Ministry of National Defence just hosted the first meeting of National Coordination Work Group for Transition to Post-quantum Cryptography (PQC), gathering together experts from across 17 different sectors and institutions.
The Work Group has been given a strategic task to develop a national plan for transition to PQC by the third quarter of 2026. It is supposed to become a cornerstone document in Lithuania’s readiness for cyber threats of the future brought about by the fast advance in quantum technologies.
“We are opening a complex but particularly important mission to assist Lithuania in strategically and smoothly transitioning to quantum-proof solutions. It is required to strengthen national cyber resilience, protect key IS against quantum threats and ensure confidence in state-provided digital services,” says Vice Minister of National Defence Tomas Godliauskas.
The developed transition plan is expected to encompass legal, technological, organizational and inter-institutional cooperation instruments to assist all responsible institutions to transition to safer quantum-proof solutions in a coordinated and effective manner.
