In the Global Cybersecurity Index announced on June 29 by the UN International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Lithuania is ranked among the best ten – sixth in the world and fourth in Europe.
“The global pandemic and persistently growing number of cyber incidents reminds us about the importance of cybersecurity. The Index reveals the work countries are doing in the area of cybersecurity, and it is wonderful to see Lithuania among the best. Lithuania is most appreciated for the legislation, capacity building, implementation of technical requirements and cooperation on cybersecurity,” Vice Minister of National Defence Margiris Abukevičius says.
The Global Cybersecurity Index is a complex indicator that allows to assess and group countries on the basis of their commitment to cybersecurity.
The Index is drawn and published by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) of the United Nations that pulls together 194 countries. It is drawn by means of survey – actions and progress of different agencies in the public sector , businesses of the private sector, the academic community and the civil society are assessed in five areas (pillars): national legal base development, technical cybersecurity means used, organizational cybersecurity means used, capacity building, and cooperation.
The Index shows the overall efforts the country is making and progress it is achieving in the area of cybersecurity, and as such, it is an important source of information for international political organisations, other countries, and business entities.
