Lithuania will install Ukraine’s test airspace surveillance system SkyFortress. Designed in Ukraine, the acoustic drone detection system tracks low-flying objects by their sound profile.
“Air threats are rapidly evolving and we respond accordingly. Instead of building everything from the ground, we apply systems already proven effective in Ukraine. This consistently enhances the full air defence chain: from airspace surveillance to air threat interception and neutralization. Plays into the first element of this chain –surveillance. The system uses AI to detect and track low-flying drones and cruise missiles,” says Minister of National Defence Robertas Kaunas.
The system classifies targets based on their acoustic or electromagnetic trace in real-time. The contract signed this summer also covers sensor data processing, acoustic and radio-frequency digital signature libraries comprising non-classified data, and personnel training.
System testing will determine its capacity to detect and identify low-flying UAV in Lithuania.
