On February 22 Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas reiterated Lithuania’s support to Ukraine’s ongoing reform and the Euro-Atlantic integration aspiration at a distance meeting of the Ministers of Defence of the QUINT format, countries that support Ukraine’s reform – the U.S., UK, Canada, Poland, and Lithuania – with the Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Andrii Taran.
“If Ukraine succeeds, we succeed, therefore we will continue actively supporting Ukraine’s aspiration to become a member of NATO. The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine is drafting a new military strategy that covers capability development, and reviewing the defence management system of Ukraine. This is important work that will define the directions of future development of Ukraine’s defence sector. Lithuania will share its experience with Ukraine in its efforts to implement the reforms and train the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” Minister A. Anušauskas said.
Minister of Defence of Ukraine A. Taran briefed the meeting Ministers on the security situation and priorities of the defence reforms aimed at transforming the Armed Forces of Ukraine and organize activities in line with NATO procedures and standards.
Lithuania will continue the bilateral cooperation and assistance in professional military education area and continue deploying military personnel as the National Military Training Operation Ukraine according the mandate approved by the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.
Lithuania has been supporting Ukraine and rendering various forms of assistance, including military, since the beginning of the Russian aggression in early 2014.
