“We welcome the agreement reached within the EU to provide additional support to Ukraine by deploying military advisors to assist the reforms and strengthen the Armed Forces Ukraine with their expertise. Lithuania has actively supported this request of Ukraine alongside the likeminded member states and intends to contribute actively to the objectives of this mission,” said Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas after the Foreign Affairs Council at Brussels announced the agreement had been made essence among member states to deploy military and civilian advisors to Ukraine.
“We will continue supporting Ukraine on all fronts. We have decided to provide support to Ukraine’s Army with Professional Military Education reform developed under the European Peace Facility,” said High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.
The EU advisory team will facilitate Ukraine’s effort to implement professional military education reform, the cornerstone element in building a Ukrainian Armed Forces based on Western standards and thus, a more resilient Ukraine. Objectives and tasks of the mission will be specified at the upcoming Foreign Affairs Council debates.
“We reached an agreement with the EU in principle that the European Union will roll out an advisory training military mission in Ukraine. These are not combat forces, this is a new element in the cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union. It is critical that we open this new page in our relations – and grant Ukraine a European perspective,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba after the meeting.
