On the 18th of April Vilnius will host Cyber Champions Summit for the first time. This cyber security forum is specifically designed for high-level national cyber policy coordinators from NATO Allies and Asia-Pacific partners. It creates possibilities for open and active discussions on the most relevant cybersecurity issues. Cyber Champions Summit is co-organized by the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence, the National Cyber Security Centre and the Regional Cyber Defence Centre.
“This high-level meeting of cybersecurity experts is an excellent opportunity for strengthening inter-state cooperation in the area of cyber security. State borders are non-existent for cyber threats. Therefore, a coordinated response with our Allies and partners is crucial. New security challenges are constantly evolving in cyberspace. Hence, we need to share the best practices and engage the private sector to find new solutions in cyber threat prevention,” says Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas.
High-level cybersecurity experts from Australia, Israel, Japan, the U.S. and other countries will share experiences in countering cyber attacks, and discuss cyber security threats posed by China and Russia. Representatives will have a chance to hold bilateral meetings and look for opportunities to cooperate in addressing global cybersecurity challenges and preventing potential attacks on critical infrastructure. The event will also address issues and opportunities created by emerging technologies.
The Cyber Champions Summit aims to engage cybersecurity experts from three continents and facilitate wide-ranging cooperation to share experiences and find new ways to strengthen resilience against cyber threats. Hackers act across state borders while seeking financial gains, trying to steal or destroy the information or disrupt critical infrastructure. Attack vectors are similar worldwide. Therefore, it is vital to exchange experiences with our partners. Building trust between the partners is crucial for building partnerships that enable the exchange of sensitive information and insights.
As the NATO Summit in Vilnius is approaching, the commitments taken on at the NATO Summit in Madrid to strengthen cybersecurity capabilities are recalled. NATO Allies are ready to incorporate lessons learned in Ukraine in improving cyber rapid response capabilities and will look for ways to assist Ukraine in the area of cybersecurity.
Not only inter-state but also public-private cooperation is critical in preventing threats in cyberspace. The Cyber Champions Summit will be attended by representatives of renowned IT companies such as Google, PaloAlto and Microsoft to reflect that reality.
According to the organizers, the key mission of the Cyber Champions Summit is to provide a platform for countries to share experiences and strengthen ties through the development of joint cybersecurity projects, as well as for representatives of private and public sectors to find new cooperation opportunities seeking to enhance the efficiency of critical infrastructure protection and the speed of innovation development to ensure resilience to cyber threats.
