On September 30 – October 6 NATO fighter aircraft conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states carried out three alert scrambles to identify and escort aircraft in the international airspace over the Baltic Sea.
On October 2 NATO air policing aircraft intercepted one Il-20 of the Russian Federation flying from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia with its onboard transponder off, according to a pre-filed flight plan, maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre.
On October 3 NATO fighter aircraft intercepted one SU-34 aircraft of the Russian Federation flying from and back to Kaliningrad without using its onboard transponder, without the flight plan, without maintaining the radio communication.
On October 4 NATO fighter aircraft intercepted one AN-72 and one SU-34 of the Russian Federation flying from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia. The AN-72 had its onboard transponder on, and the flight plan, maintained radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre. The SU-34 had its onboard transponder off, no flight plan, and did not keep the radio communication.
