On September 30–October 6 fighter aircraft of the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states were not alerted to patrol the airspace over the Baltic Sea and intercepted one aircraft of the Russian Federation violating flight rules:
On October 1 NATO fighter jets intercepted and identified a small fixed-wing aircraft flying in international airspace from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia. Its onboard transponder was switched on but the crew had no pre-filed flight plan and was not maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre.
