On November 9 – 15 fighter aircraft conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states carried out 3 alert scrambles to identify and escort military aircraft of the Russian Federation in the international airspace over the Baltic Sea.
On November 10 fighter aircraft conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states intercepted one IL-20 flying from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad without using the onboard transponder, maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre. Its flight plan had been prefilled for another aircraft type (IL-38).
On November 11 NATO fighter aircraft were scrambled to intercept one IL-20 flying from Kaliningrad to international airspace and back to Kaliningrad but the aircraft changed the course and was not identified.
On November 11 NATO fighter aircraft intercepted two SU-27 escorting an IL-20, flying from Kaliningrad into international airspace and back to Kaliningrad. The U-27s had no flight plans, onboard transponders off, not maintaining radio communication.
