On April 29 Vice Minister of National Defence Žilvinas Tomkus met with Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Miyake Shingo.
The first-ever bilateral defence meeting of such level focused on the security challenges in the Baltic region, security environment in the Info-Pacific, threats presented by China and North Korea. Vice Ministers discussed planned defence spending, the growing strength of partnership of NATO Allies and the Asian-Pacific four (IP4): Japan, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea.
It was agreed to continue fostering the political dialogue, cooperate in the area of cyber security, look for wider opportunities of cooperation between Lithuanian and Japanese militaries and continue rendering assistance to the war-torn Ukraine.
