On February 14 Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas took part in the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting ahead of the NATO Ministerial in Brussels where further assistance to Ukraine was discussed. According to Minister, Allied support to Ukraine will not falter as long as it is necessary.
“We need to define our level of ambition clearly. Russia must lose in Ukraine. The sooner it happens, the better. We need to provide everything the Ukrainians are asking for,” said A. Anušauskas.
Minister underscored that Lithuania was providing a new package of assistance including L-70 anti-aircraft guns and Mi-8 helicopters, and continued training for Ukrainian troops at the same time as well.
At the informal session with NATO Defence Ministers and Minister of Defence of Ukraine O.Reznikov on the same day A. Anušauskas stressed the importance of practical approximation of Ukraine to NATO.
“We need to discuss ahead of the NATO Summit in Vilnius how NATO’s political commitment to Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic path could be strengthened. Ukraine is resolved to continue its military reform even amidst the raging war. It is crucial. It will facilitate our preparation for Ukraine’s membership ahead of time and the right time will come,” said Minister A. Anušauskas.
