Today, Minister of National Defence Robertas Kaunas departs for Berlin, where he and German Federal Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius will open Day II of the Berlin Security Conference. This year, the conference is co-organized for the first time by Germany, with Lithuania as a partner nation.
Minister Kaunas will hold a meeting with Federal Minister of Defence B. Pistorius. The Minister’s agenda also includes meetings with representatives of the defence industry and the U.S. Ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker.
In the summer of 2023, Germany announced its decision to station a brigade-sized unit in Lithuania. Hosting the German Brigade reflects Lithuania’s commitment to ensuring comprehensive Host Nation Support for Allied—especially German—military capabilities, and their seamless integration into the Lithuanian defence system. This step directly advances NATO’s collective defence and regional deterrence. Implemented closely to date, the Roadmap Action Plan on stationing the German Brigade in Lithuania, signed in 2023, sets late 2027 as the deadline for the brigade to reach Full Operational Capability at its full strength of 5,000 troops.
