The Baltic states are strengthening regional air defence. Latvia is handing over the SENTINEL radars to Lithuania on a non-reimbursable basis.
“The main role of the SENTINEL radars is to enable airborne target neutralisation with the NASAMS with air tracking and surveillance data. The equipment will improve the effectiveness of Lithuania’s response and help protect the population. I thank Latvia and the United States for your continuous cooperation in strengthening the regional security,” said Minister of National Defence Robertas Kaunas.
Latvia took the decision to hand over the radars to Lithuania on the basis of US advice. The country uses another type of system for its own national security.
