On October 7-8 Minister of National Defence A. Anušauskas is conducting a formal visit to Sweden. He met with Minister of Defence of Sweden Peter Hultqvist Friday in Stockholm to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional security, as well as participation in multinational operations.
During the visit Minister A. Anušauskas has a tour at the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency and underscored to Minister P. Hultqvist the exceptional value of Sweden’s experience in strengthening public resilience.
“Strengthening public resilience is one of our current priority tasks and we are in need of Sweden’s best practices,” said Minister A. Anušauskas.
Ministers A. Anušauskas and P. Hultqvist also both pointed out the importance of transatlantic bonds to European security.
“Not only U.S. but also British military presence in the region is core, that is why we particularly appreciate the UK-led Joint Expeditionary Force that not only strengthens the Baltic-Nordic cooperation but is also one of the most initial crisis response instruments,” said Minister A. Anušauskas.
Lithuania and Sweden have been actively developing security and defence cooperation since the re-establishment of Lithuania’s independence. Sweden was providing every kind of assistance to Lithuania before our NATO membership, such as weaponry and equipment donations, medical support, sea and coastline surveillance systems, air defence battalion projects, professional improvement for Lithuanian offices in Sweden.
Currently the cooperation is most active between separate units, the relations and closets between the Air Forces, Navies and Military Medical Services.
