On June 5-6 Vice Minister of National Defence Margiris Abukevičius met with First Deputy Defence Minister of Georgia Lela Chikovani visiting Lithuania. M. Abukevičius assured her of Lithuania’s durable an continued support to Georgia’s membership in NATO and the EU. Vice Ministers also addressed national and regional security challenges, expectations for the NATO Summit in Madrid and the Russian war against Ukraine.
“We are consistent in our support to NATO’s open door policy and we are prepared to strengthen bilateral cooperation and Lithuania’s contribution to NATO programmes in Georgia,” said Vice Minister M. Abukevičius.
First Deputy Defence Minister of Georgia L. Chikovani thanked Lithuania for the consistent support and invited Vice Minister for a return visit to Georgia.
The defence cooperation of Lithuania and Georgia encompass many areas – for instance, military training and education, cybersecurity, joint training in Lithuania and Georgia, cooperation between the Land Forces, Special Operations Forces, Military Academies.
