On November 22 the Ramstein-format Ukraine Defense Contact Group met virtually. Lithuania presented military assistance plans and the concept of the Lithuanian-assembled demining coalition for Ukraine.
The new concept lays out Lithuania’s resolve to assist Ukraine with both military and humanitarian mine clearance. The concept will take its final shape in detail in December.
To date, 21 countries gave expressed interest in joining the Ukraine demining coalition.
Representatives of over 50 countries also discussed other formed force coalitions and the course of Russia’s war in Ukraine at the 17th so-called donor meeting. The most recent weaponry requirements of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were named as well as the latest assistance packages from the donor states.
At the meeting hosted by U.S. Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin Lithuania confirmed it would join the G7 declaration of support for Ukraine and would continue to consistently strengthen Ukraine’s military and defensive capabilities at the meeting.
In total, the assistance Lithuania has provided to Ukraine so far amounts to approx. half a billion euros. By the end of this year, more military assistance will be delivered to Ukraine worth of at least additional EUR 40 million.
