A Supplemental Agreement between the U.S. Government and the Defence Materiel Agency under the Ministry of National Defence on acquisition on the second battery of the HIMARS High Mobility Artillery Rocket System.
The most recent HIMARS contract supplement covers acquisition of additional launchers with blank and live ammunition including sets of guided missiles of different types and combat characteristics, C3 equipment, and a Logistical Support and Maintenance Package.
“HIMARS is a mobile American artillery system, used by 14 NATO and other partner nations, proven on the battlefield in Ukraine. The U.S. Allies committed to deliver the first battery before the end of this year, however, we think and invest forward to continue strengthening the defensibility of our country, enemy deterrence and our ability to defend the eastern flank alongside the Allies,” says Minister of National Defence Robertas Kaunas.
Defence Materiel Agency under the Ministry of National Defence signed the initial contract with the United States in 2022. The Lithuanian Armed Forces purchased HIMARS launchers with blank and live ammunition, equipment for HIMARS training and maintenance, as well as personnel training, system integration and incorporation in the NATO Integrated Air Defence System NATINADS services.
The contract with now combined value of approx. USD 778 million will be executed by the U.S. company Lockheed Martin. The acquired rocket artillery system is compatible with the other technologies operated in the Lithuanian Armed Forces and therefore easy to integrate in the present defence plans thus stepping up deterrence. While in the waiting for the first HIMARS battery, Lithuanian Armed Forces personnel carried out the necessary training delivered by the U.S. HIMARS unit currently on the ground in Lithuania.
The United States remains on of Lithuania’s key allies. Lithuania’s purchases from the U.S. over the past three years stand at the value of approx. EUR 2 billion making us the biggest U.S. buyer in the Baltics. Lithuania’s procures the Javelin anti-tank missile systems, JLTV Joint Light Tactical Vehicles, Black Hawk helicopters, HIMARS, and the AMRAAM missiles for the NASAMS medium-range air defence system, etc.
