On 30 May, at the meeting with representative of the United States Department of Defense Mieke Eoyang and Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleh Haiduk, Deputy Minister of National Defense of Lithuania Margiris Abukevičius discussed lessons of the less visible but no less intense cyber war in Ukraine.
“Ukraine’s painful experience and lessons learned are invaluable information for all of us. By knowing and understanding how Russia operates in cyberspace during the war, together we will be better able to protect ourselves from such attacks in the future. Lithuania is ready to continue supporting Ukraine with its available resources,” said M. Abukevičius.
During the meeting with representative of the United States Department of Defense Mieke Eoyang, Deputy Minister M. Abukevičius highlighted progress in developing bilateral cooperation in the area of cyber security. “We have made significant progress because our cooperation is based on practical activities that are mutually beneficial. The main platform for our cooperation is the Regional Cyber Defense Center in Kaunas, which has reached full operational capacity and is already providing all partners with recently especially relevant information on cyber threats in our region,” said M. Abukevičius.
According to the Deputy Minister, further cooperation could include professional development and joint projects in the field of innovation.
“We are seeking greater involvement of the U.S. in joint cyber security training which could strengthen the qualifications of our and our partners’ specialists. We also offer Americans to cooperate more actively in cyber security innovation projects,” said M. Abukevičius.
The United States has allocated funds for the project of new generation high-efficiency cyber security technical devices (sensors) being implemented in Lithuania and for the acquisition of a cyber security training platform designed for the part of cyber range for industrial controllers environment.
With the outbreak of war in Ukraine in February this year, the Regional Cyber Defense Center launched the Project for Securing Cyber Space of Ukraine Together, which aims to share information on cyber threats against Ukraine. This activity of the RCDC members has also been successfully joined by Poland.
