Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas and other Minister of Defence of Eastern and Central European Allies agreed on a united position to seek substantive decisions of strengthening the eastern flank of NATO at the Madrid NATO Summit in June.
“The Bucharest Nine countries agree that NATO needs to take decisions on concrete long-term measures. We urge to continue strengthening the Alliance deterrence an defence position by developing an effective forward defence throughout the eastern flank of NATO, including correspondingly stepped up military presence of the Alliance based on regional peculiarities and policy,” said Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas said after taking part in a distance Bucharest Nine (B9) Defence Ministers’ meeting today in late afternoon.
Ministers of Defence of Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary discussed the regional security situation, NATO and EU roles in supporting Ukraine and the new NATO’s Strategic Concept. The meeting was joined by representatives of the United States, United Kingdom and NATO on guest rights.
The Bucharest Nine is platform of dialogue and cooperation of nine Eastern and Central European countries initiated by Poland and Romania to promote Euro-Atlantic security.
