On September 6 – 12 fighter aircraft conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states were scrambled three times to identify and escort military aircraft of the Russian Federation in the international airspace over the Baltic Sea.
On September 6 NATO Air Policing fighter aircraft intercepted one aircraft flying from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad, its onboard transponder was off, the crew had no pre-filed flight plan, but maintained radio communication with the regional air traffic control center.
On September 10 NATO fighter jets intercepted eight aircraft flying from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad, their onboard transponders were on, the crews had no flight plans abut maintained radio communication with the regional air traffic control center.
On September 11 NATO air policing fighter aircraft intercepted two aircraft. One was flying from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad with its onboard transponder off, without the flight plan, maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control center. The other one was flying from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia with the onboard transponder switched on, without the flight plan, maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control center.
