On November 8 – 14 fighter aircraft conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states were scrambled twice to intercept military aircraft of the Russian Federation in the international airspace over the Baltic Sea.
On November 10 NATO Baltic Air Policing detachment aircraft intercepted one TU-134 flying from the mainland of the Russian Federation to Kaliningrad with its onboard transponder on, keeping radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre, but had no pre-filed flight plan. NATO fighter jets also intercepted two SU-27s that took off from Kaliningrad, met the in its route TU-134 and escorted it to Kaliningrad. The two SU-27 had no flight plans, their onboard transponders were off, the crews did not keep radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre.
On November 10 NATO air policing fighter aircraft intercepted one TU-134 flying from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia, its onboard transponder was on, the crew kept radio contact with the regional air traffic control centre and had the flight plan. The NATO fighters also intercepted two SU-27s flying from and back to Kaliningrad, they had no flight plans, the onboard transponders were off and radio communication was not maintained.
