On June 22–28 the NATO Baltic Air Policing Detachment was alerted in response to international flight regulation violations four times.
On June 22 NATO fighter aircraft were scrambled in response to two SU-30SM flying from and back to Kaliningrad via international airspace with their onboard transponders switched off, without the flight plans and without maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre. While on the same mission, one TU-154 was also intercepted on the way from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia, via international airspace, its onboard transponder switched on, adhering to a pre-filed flight plan and maintaining radio communication.
On June 23 NATO fighter jets identified and escorted one IL-18 flying through international airspace from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad. Its onboard transponder was switched on, the crew was maintaining radio communication and had the flight plan.
On June 24 NATO fighter aircraft intercepted two IL-76 flying from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia with their onboard transponders switched on and maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre, however, only one of the two had the flight plan.
On June 27 NATO fighter aircraft were dispatched to identify and escort two SU30SM flying through international airspace from and to Kaliningrad. The aircraft had their onboard transponders off, no flight plans, and were not maintaining radio communication.
