On February 13–19 fighter aircraft conducting the NATO Air Policing Missions in the Baltic states were scrambled six times to identify and escort aircraft of the Russian Federation flying in violation of flight rules in international airspace over the Baltic Sea.
On February 13 NATO Air Policing Detachment fighter aircraft intercepted one IL-20 flying from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad through international airspace without the pre-filed flight plan, its onboard transponder off, the crew was maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre. NATO fighter jets also intercepted two SU-27 flying in international airspace from Kaliningrad and back without the flight plan, onboard transponders off, not maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre.
On February 13 NATO fighter aircraft were scrambled to identify and escort one IL-18 flying in international airspace from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad according to a pre-filed flight plan, with its onboard transponder switched on, maintaining the radio communication.
On February 13 NATO fighter jets intercepted one IL-18 flying from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia through international airspace. It had no flight plan, the crew used the onboard transponder and maintained the radio communication.
On February 14 NATO fighter aircraft were scrambled to intercept one IL-20 flying from and back to Kaliningrad via international airspace, it had no flight plan, the onboard transponder was off, the crew was not maintaining the radio communication.
On February 17 NATO air policing fighter aircraft were scrambled to intercept one IL-20 flying through international airspace from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia without the flight plan, without using the onboard transponder and not maintaining the radio communication.
On February 19 NATO fighter jets were scramble to identify and escort one AN-124 flying in international airspace from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad without the flight plan, maintaining the radio communication but its onboard transponder switched off.
