On April 13–19 the NATO Air Policing in the Baltic states Detachment was alerted in response to international flight regulation violations four times.
On April 13 NATO air policing fighter aircraft were dispatched to intercept one IL-20 flying through international airspace from Kaliningrad and back. Its onboard transponder was switched off, the crew had no pre-filed flight plan and were not maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre. Also, one AN-26 was intercepted flying through international airspace between Kaliningrad and mainland Russia. The crew had no flight plan but kept the radio transponder on and were maintaining radio communication.
On April 14 NATO fighter jets identified and escorted one IL-20 flying through international airspace, without the flight plan and not maintaining radio communication with regional air traffic control.
On April 15 NATO air policing fighter aircraft identified and escorted two SU-30SM flying from Kaliningrad and back via international airspace without the flight plans, not maintaining radio communication, with their onboard transponders off.
On April 17 NATO fighter jets were alerted in response to one IL-20 flying from Kaliningrad and back via international airspace without the pre-filed flight plan, not maintaining radio communication and with its onboard transponder switched off.
