On September 27 Minister of National Defence had a meeting with Ambassador of Moldova to Lithuania HE Serghei Mihov to discuss state of affairs in the politics of Moldova and prospects of bilateral cooperation on defence.
“The Government of Lithuania gives a very distinct [priority to the Eastern Partnership policy. Lithuania is following closely the progress in Moldova’s defence reforms. We applaud the decision of the Moldovan people to elect a pro-European President and the pro-president party’s majority in the Parliament. We wish to continue completing bilateral projects with the Ministry of Defence of Moldova that we are annually signing bilateral cooperation plans with,” said A. Anušauskas.
Minister reaffirmed Lithuania’s continued support to Moldova’s Euro-Atlantic integration. The Ministry of National Defence has tabled to the EU proposals on funding specific programmes in Moldova. Lithuania is also an active participant of the NATO Defence Education Enhancement Programme activities for reforming the Moldovan NCO training system.
A. Anušauskas invited S. Mihov to cooperate with Lithuanian Embassy in Kishinev more intensely to raise awareness in the Moldovan public about the European and NATO. The Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Moldova carries out the NATO Contact Point Embassy role in 2019-2022, arranges public diplomacy events in order to strengthen the resilience of the Moldovan people disinformation and hybrid threats.
Lithuania and Moldova have been developing defence cooperation since 2004. Moldovan officers have been invited to a variety of short defence study courses and seminars, English language and Junior Staff Course at the General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania ever since. Moldovan military personnel are also invited to paramedic and international instructor courses at the Lithuanian Armed Forces School.
