On June 29-30 Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas was on a visit to Ukraine. At a meeting with Minister of Defence of Ukraine Oleksii Reznikov he presented Lithuania’s assistance plan for the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the long-term and the latest assistance package for the war-torn country. Minister toured Chernihiv, Irpin and Bucha to view the constructions financed by Lithuania.
“We understand that only a lasting long-term financial and military assistance to Ukraine will grant stability to the whole Europe. Therefore, we have put together a three-year plan of assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. We have set three main aims for ourselves. First, to continue making every effort to ensure a continuous a continuous military assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Second, to further ensure rehabilitation to the injured Ukrainian military. And third, to continue the consultations on the defence reform launched before the war was started in order to bring Ukraine together with NATO,” said A. Anušauskas.
Minister confirmed that the most recent Lithuania’s assistance package included NASAMS missile launchers due to be delivered this autumn, 10 armored personnel carriers M113, mortar ammunition and 2.5 million rounds. The latter left for Ukraine on the same week as Minister’s visit.
Lithuanian and Ukrainian Defence Ministers discussed the preparations for the NATO Summit in Vilnius and Ukraine’s progress on the military training reform.
Since the start of the war, Lithuania has provide to Ukraine nearly half a billion worth of military assistance by now.
