March 7, Renius Pleškys begins duties at the Ministry of National Defence as Vice Minister for Lithuanian Armed Forces infrastructure development.
“One of my primary objectives is to set on track further development of the military infrastructure. The infrastructure we already have needs to be reinforced so that it is capable of supporting the stepped up national and Allied requirements. The growth of military infrastructure will realistically reflect the growth of our military capability. We are developing the Rūdninkai Training Area, continuing constructions of military towns and other necessary sites so that it all significantly strengthens our security,” says new Vice Minister.
R. Pleškys is a retired Navy captain whose military service with the Lithuanian Armed Forces lasted from 1992 till March this year. He spent the past five years in the capacity of the Assistant Chief of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Defence Staff for Planning.
R. Pleškys’s earlier career includes duties at the Capability Planning and Human Resources Departments of the Ministry of National Defence, various positions at the Lithuanian Navy. He also served as Deputy Military Representative of Lithuania to NATO and the EU and Lithuania’s first Military Attaché to the Unite Kingdom.
The new Vice Minister received his education at Kaunas University of Technology and improved qualification at the Joint Services Command and Staff College, United Kingdom, and the
U.S. Naval Command College. His service was recognized with the Knight’s Cross of the Order of the Cross of Vytis.
