On June 21 the Ministry of National Defence hosted a meeting of the international CYBER4DE project partners to take stock on the progress made, set next priorities, assess potential risks during the development and risk management measures.
CYBER4DE project pulled together partners from 7 European Union member states to develop the first in Europe new generation multifunctional cyber rapid response toolbox which is assessed to make a significant contribution to the strength of EU cyber defence capabilities. Implementation of the project funded by the European Defence Industry Development Programme (EDIDP) is coordinated by Lithuania.
Vice Minister of National Defence Margiris Abukevičius underscored that the toolbox will be a significant addition to the activity of the Lithuanian-coordinated EU Cyber Rapid Response Teams (CRRTs) and will be available for ensuring national readiness for an effective response to cyber incidents.
Representatives of the consortium which is implementing the project discussed responsibility-sharing among enterprises and implementation of the shared responsibility packages. They also took stock of the project implementation course, discussed competence requirements of the toolbox to be set by Ministries of the participating countries.
Other topics of consultations were the potential formats for testing functionalities and operation of the toolbox and exercises and exercise scenarios which would test the toolbox functionality, convenience, capacity and potential further development.
The Ministry of National Defence is directly responsible for the management of the project, while the activity of the industry consortium is coordinated by the Baltic Institute of Advanced Technology. The NRD Cyber Security company of Lithuania is a member of the consortium on the rights of technical coordinator.
The developed toolbox is assessed to be highly valuable for the Lithuanian-coordinated Cyber Rapid Response Teams (CRRTs) established under the European Union Permanent Structure Cooperation (PESCO) by enabling the capability to be more efficient at both, national and international levels. The innovation will be also available for other military and civilian institutions for a quick and effective cyber-incident management.
The multifunctional cyber rapid response toolbox is planned to be completed by mid-2024, including after tests at simulations with the EU Rapid Cyber Response Teams.
