February 3, Vice Minister of National Defence Margiris Abukevičius attended an international meeting with Deputy National Security Advisor for Cyber and Emerging Technology at the U.S. National Security Council Anne Neuberger in Warsaw. The meeting held by the initiative of the United States addressed potential means of rendering assistance to Ukraine and to strengthen the countries’ resilience in the light of growing cyber threats. Together with Lithuania, the meeting was attended by representatives of Estonia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.
“Lithuania is making every effort to render assistance to Ukraine, including in the area of cybersecurity. The recent events have been worrying, therefore, we need to prepare for and forecast potential future developments. One of the important aspects here is sharing activities and responsibilities among the countries. Lithuania is providing assistance at both levels, national – technical consultations and the special mission to Ukraine, and international – proposals to use the Lithuania-coordinated Cyber Rapid Response Teams to aid Ukraine, said M. Abukevičius at the meeting.
Vice Minister also underscored the importance of cooperation with the U.S., Ukraine and Georgia at the Regional Cyber Defence Centre which sends to partners weekly reports about the cybersecurity threats in Ukraine.
In her turn, A. Neuberger stressed at the international meeting that currently a special focus was needed on supporting Ukraine in the area of cybersecurity and underscored the U.S. commitments to the countries in the region on strengthening cybersecurity and resilience to threats.
