The Ministry of National Defence participates in the international initiative, Safer Internet Day, held on February 9 this year, in order to encourage the public at large and particularly children and young people to develop safer Internet use skills. A range of events will be organised by the National Cyber Security Centre and the Mobilisation and Civil Resistance Department under MoD this week as well.
“Safer Internet Day has been organised in the world since 2004 to draw attention to relevant digital challenges and promote a safer ways of interaction with the Internet and digital technologies, especially among children and youth,” Vice Minister Margiris Abukevičius says.
The National Cyber Security Centre under the Ministry of National Defence has put together recommendations and advice on connecting to the Internet safely, especially in public spaces, on the importance of choosing “strong” passwords, etc. Such advice, as well as answers to questions about social engineering, back-ups, privacy, etc., will be given out on the National Cyber Security Centre social media throughout the Safer Internet Week February 8 -14.
The Centre will also organise an cybersecurity knowledge check contest on its Facebook account, and the Mobilisation and Civil Resistance Department under MoD will host a discussion on manipulation of public opinion, viewpoints on the past, and the negative effect of disinformation.
