On September 28 – October 4 fighter aircraft conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states carried out 3 alert scrambles to identify and escort military aircraft of the Russian Federation in the international airspace over the Baltic Sea.
On September 30 fighter aircraft conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states intercepted one SU-34 flying from mainland Russia into international airspace and to Kaliningrad. It had no flight plan, its onboard transponder was off, radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre was not maintained.
On October 1 NATO fighter aircraft intercepted one IL-20 flying from the mainland of the Russian Federation through international airspace to Kaliningrad. The crew had a pre-filed flight plan and maintained radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre but the onboard transponder was off.
On October 2 NATO fighter aircraft intercepted one IL-20 following the route Kaliningrad – international airspace – mainland Russia. The crew had a flight plan, its onboard transponder was switched off, radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre was maintained.
