On September 14 – 20 fighter aircraft conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states carried out 8 alert scrambles to identify and escort military aircraft of the Russian Federation in the international airspace over the Baltic Sea.
On September 14 fighter aircraft patrolling the Baltic skies as part of the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states intercepted one IL-20 flying from and to Kaliningrad without the pre-filed flight plan, with its onboard transponder off, not maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre.
On September 15 NATO fighter aircraft intercepted one IL-20 flying from Kaliningrad to the mainland of the Russian Federation, and two SU-27 that escorted the IL-20 out and returned to Kaliningrad. The IL-20 had a pre-filed flight plan, without using the onboard transponder, the crew maintained radio communication. The SU-20s had no flight plans, their onboard transponders were off, the aircraft crews were not maintaining radio communication.
On September 16 NATO fighter aircraft intercepted two TU-160 and four SU-27. The route of both TU-160s was mainland Russia – international airspace – mainland Russia. Two of the SU-27s escorted the TU-160s from mainland Russia, the other two SU-27s came from Kaliningrad and stood in mid-way. None of the aircraft had flight plans, used radio transponders, or maintained radio communication.
On September 16 NATO fighters intercepted two TU-160 and four SU-27, the TU-160 were flying the route mainland Russia – international airspace – mainland Russia. Two of the SU-27s came to escort the TU-160s from Kaliningrad, the other two flew to stand in from mainland Russia. None of the aircraft had flight plans, used radio transponders, or maintained radio communication.
On September 17 NATO fighter aircraft intercepted one IL-20 flying along the route mainland Russia – Kaliningrad – mainland Russia. It had a fligh plan, its onboard transponder was off, the crew maintained radio communication.
On September 17 NATO fighter aircraft intercepted one IL-38 and two SU-35 escorting it from mainland Russia, and two SU-27 that met them. None of the aircraft had flight plans, used radio transponders, or maintained radio communication.
On September 20 NATO air policing fighter aircraft intercepted one IL-38 and two SU-27 escorting it on the route Kaliningrad – international airspace – mainland Russia. None of the aircraft had flight plans, used radio transponders, or maintained radio communication.
On September 20 NATO air policing fighter aircraft intercepted one IL-38 and two SU-27 escorting it from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia, the aircraft were met by two SU-35. None of the aircraft had flight plans, used radio transponders, or maintained radio communication.
