On March 29 Speaker of the Seimas Viktoras Panckietis and Vice Minister of National Defence Vytautas Umbrasas congratulated soldiers of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group in Lithuania lining up on the occasion of Lithuania’s 15th anniversary as a member of NATO. Commander of the NATO eFP BG Lt Col Peer Papenbroock briefed the guests on the state of integration of the unit into the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf.
The NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group is one of the most important measures of deterrence demonstrating the Alliance’s unity and resolve to defence our country. Deployed from the beginning of January 2017 in the Training Regiment in Rukla, the multinational unit is currently integrated into the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf. Over the two years since its deployment approx. 8 thousand soldiers from 9 NATO allies – Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, France, Croatia, the Czech Republic , Iceland and Luxembourg, have already rotated to man the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group. Currently it comprises military personnel from Germany, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Norway, and Belgium, and an expert from Iceland.
