On September 15-16 the 7th anniversary of the trilateral Great Hetman Kostiantyn Ostrogski Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian Brigade (LITPOLUKRBRIG) was marked in Lublin.
“The Lublin Triangle and the international Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian brigade embodies our aims and ensures the connection between our nations, history and values. The Brigade also makes the regional and military cooperation stronger,” said Vice Minister of National Defence Margiris Abukevičius at the event.
The LITPOLUKRBRIG Staff has launched Operation United for Peace in support of Ukraine in the wake of the war reality and resulting needs. It covers tactical-operational surveillance of the situation in Ukraine, logistical coordination of the assistance sent to Ukraine, coordination of border crossings, assistance with volunteer registration, as well as coordination of assistance to refugees in Lublin province.
“I am deeply grateful to the LITPOLUKRBRIG leadership and personnel for Operation United for Peace. Your efforts and support couldn’t be more timely, needed and appreciated by the Ukrainian military and their families,” underscored M. Abukevičius in his congratulations. “Before the war began, the main aim of LITPOLUKRBRIG was to train Ukrainian officers and soldiers according to Western military standards and procedures. I am certain that when the war has ended, we will have some additional tasks for the Brigade,” spoke Vice Minister.
The joint trilateral brigade was established with three main aims in view: stepped up Lithuanian-Ukrainian-Polish strategic partnership, strengthened and solidified mutual confidence; assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine with integration and reform in line with Western requirements, application of NATO standards and procedures, and development of a common work culture of Lithuanian, Ukrainian and Polish troops; enhancement of military cooperation, development and training of joint capabilities suitable for international deployments.
While on the visit in Lublin, Vice Minister Margiris Abukevičius met with Oleksandr Polishchuk, Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine. They discussed the status quo on the frontlines, Lithuania’s assistance to Ukraine and way ahead for the trilateral brigade. Vice Minister M. Abukevičius invited O. Polishchuk to attend the European Union Eastern Partnership seminar in Vilnius which will address the trends and prospects of the Eastern Partnership Security and Defence Policy.
