On May 6 Minister of National Defence Dovilė Šakalienė will pay a visit to Poland where she will see Minister of National Defence of Poland Władysław Kosiniak-Kamyszto discuss bilateral relations, defence capability and industry development, assistance to Ukraine and other topics.
D. Šakalienė will also speak at the panel discussion of the Defence 24 Days Conference on New Foundations of the Defence System: ReArm Europe – a Chance for Military Independence.”
Defence24 Days is the largest defence and security conference in Central and Eastern Europe which convenes senior politicians, military leaders, representatives of the defence industry and experts from over 50 countries. The participants will research topics like modernization of the armed forces, cyber security, response to hybrid threats, application of AI and autonomous systems in defence and strengthening resilience of the European infrastructure, this year.
Lithuania and Poland have particularly strengthened their security and defence relations in the recent years in reflection of increasing regional challenges. The two countries intensely cooperate in NATO and EU framework to strengthen the eastern flank of the Alliance, from joint exercises to infrastructure projects, such as the proposed defence line along the EU border with Russia and Belarus. The strategic importance of the Suwalki Gap highlights the need to coordinate actions to prevent potential isolation of the Baltic states. Both countries are significantly stepping up defence spending, the countries are among the NATO leaders in the area. Also, Lithuania and Poland join forces to guard the undersea infrastructure, and consistently support the U.S. involvement in ensuring the European security.
