Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas and Chief of Defence Lt Gen Valdemaras Rupšys are visiting the United Kingdom on February 27–28 to meet with Lithuanian servicemembers training Ukrainian colleagues at Operation Interflex.
Lithuanian military instructors have been serving in the operation since the autumn 2022. The current, 18th Lithuanian rotation has been providing training to the Ukrainians since January.
The Ukrainian military are undergoing Lithuanian Land Force, Air Force and Special Operations Forces courses in the UK, as well as courses delivered by the Military Police, Training and Doctrine Command.
Lithuanian military instructors are also providing training for Ukrainian colleagues in joint courses with the UK, Germany, Nordic countries so that the Ukrainians are able to operate and maintain the equipment, weaponry and vehicles transferred to Ukraine and have various levels of leaders and military specialists.
Operation Interflex is a UK-led international military training mission for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The scope of the operation has been expanded by the joining of the seven Partner Nations in the UK-led Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), as well as Germany, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, while in 2022 alone it resulted in up to 10 thousand trained Ukrainian troops.
