On March 7 – 13 fighter aircraft conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states were scrambled 16 times to patrol the Baltic airspace border with the Russian Federation and Belarus and to intercept military aircraft of the Russian Federation in the international airspace over the Baltic Sea that were flying in violation of international aviation flight rules.

On March 12 aircraft of the air detachment conducting the NATO Air Policing mission in the Baltic states flew the air patrol mission along the airspace border between Lithuania and the Russian Federation and Belarus. After the take-off, the mission was modified to alert scramble to carry out identification and interception: NATO fighter jets identified one AN-26 from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad oblast, its onboard transponders was off, no flight plan had been pre-filed, the crew was maintaining communication with the regional air traffic control centre.
